Dunes form due to various instabilities of a granular surface under a driving fluid. Their final shape depends on the depth of the granular bed, the wind direction and the cohesion forces. Various patterns from coastal dunes, desert dunes and Mars dunes can be reproduced. Vegetation renders stable shapes unstable and provokes the transition from Barchans to parabolic dunes.
