Stand 4 – WHEN CHEMISTRY LIGHTS UP THE LIVING Image tracking of wood components
Lignin is a biomolecule, which is one of the main components of wood along with cellulose. Its distribution within the plant cell wall has a strong impact on the quality of products derived from plant
resources: materials (wood, paper, textile and composite fibers), biofuels and biorefinery (bioethanol), human and animal feed (digestibility).
Chemistry, biology and physics combine to study the dynamics of lignification of the plant wall by triple metabolic labeling within plants themselves. This innovative interdisciplinary work allows us to approach the structure of the plant cell and explore different ways of seeing the world: I) the macroscopic and the microscopic, II) traditional vision and fluorescence, III) analysis and representation images.
